Penland Trio Make The News
It has been a busy few weeks for Penland School of Crafts in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. We had to share the news of having been nominated for a grant to help build a new woodshop.
"I just wanted to send you a quick note to say thank you for being a part of the Renaissance Arts Council Grant application. I'm sure that our project sounds more complex than most of the other proposals, but I think that our application was thoughtfully put together and it is an excellent example of the tremendous value that a woodshop can bring to a community in the arts and education. We are very excited about the possibility of not only supporting the construction of our shop, but creating a year-round venue for the performing arts. The woods and their use in the arts (as well as daily life) are so deeply connected and necessary to our culture that such a place is a real treasure. I am confident that Penland School of Crafts will make a significant contribution to the arts and education in a way that will benefit our community and its residents for years to come."

This is a long shot for getting the grant as most applications are a year round process, however, it is nice to hear that someone who has never even visited Penland has seen the value of the woodshop and felt we had something to offer. I couldn't be more pleased.
Our project is moving forward. We have a tentative date for building to begin and they will work with us as we build. We need the following items to get going:
1. The land - we have a few acres in Spruce Pine, North Carolina that have been in the family for years. We have been looking for the right place to be359ba680
